World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022 - Antimicrobials: Handle with Care

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022 (18 - 24 November 2022) is a global program started by UN to remind us of the importance of proper use of antibiotics. As of today, this week is celebrated each year in many countries.

As we all understand that drug resistance refers to the tolerance of microorganisms, parasites, and tumor cells to the effects of chemotherapy drugs. Once drug resistance occurs, the chemotherapy effects of drugs will be significantly reduced. Drug resistance can be divided into acquired drug resistance and natural drug resistance according to the cause of its occurrence. Pathogens in nature, such as a certain strain of bacteria, may also have natural drug resistance. When antibiotics are used for a long time, the majority of sensitive strains are constantly killed, and drug-resistant strains multiply in large numbers, replacing sensitive strains, and the rate of bacterial resistance to this drug continues to increase. At present, the latter method is considered to be the main reason for the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria. In order to maintain the effectiveness of antibiotics, attention should be paid to their rational use.

Medical research shows that certain veterinary drugs can induce human cells, genes and chromosomes to mutate, cause structural changes through pharmacological reactions, and greatly increase the chances of carcinogenesis, teratogenicity and mutagenicity. Long-term consumption of food with excessive veterinary drug residues may cause acute and chronic poisoning, allergies, and bacterial drug resistance to the human body. Veterinary drugs residue in animal body can also be transferred to the environment such as water and soil along with urine, feces and other excrement. Most of the drugs are still active after entering the environment. Under certain conditions, they can inhibit the growth of certain microorganisms and affect the sustainable development of ecology.

Ringbio, as the major manufacturer and supplier of food safety drug residue rapid test kits, is always working closely with food manufacturers to ensure the products are safe to consume. Currently, we have partners in more than 50 countries worldwide. From Europe to America, from Pacific to Africa, millions of food samples are tested with our rapid test kit each year. People use our rapid test kit to detect drug residues in milk, eggs, honey, shrimp and other food products to ensure that these products meet the standard requirements and minimize the potential adverse effects on the human body.

For this coming World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022, Ringbio is happy to share our concern and our focus. One health is a global program that requires everyone's effort and participation. Let's work together to ensure the future generations a sustainable tomorrow.
